Editorial Policy: How We Research Our Kyrgyzstan Guides

Kyrgyzstan Guides is a research-led travel publication. This page explains exactly how our guides are put together, where the numbers come from, how often they are checked, and what we will not do. We publish it because you are entitled to know how the advice you are acting on was produced.

Who writes this site

Every guide on this site is written and edited by Toofan Singh, an India-based traveller and the founder of Kyrgyzstan Guides. There is no anonymous content team and no guest-post programme. If you want to query something in a guide, you are writing to the person who wrote it: toofan.tempest59@gmail.com.

How a guide is researched

Each guide begins with the primary sources for that topic, then adds operator pricing and recent traveller reports to fill in what official sources never cover — what a shared taxi actually charges in August, whether a pass is open, what a yurt bed costs this season.

  • Official sources first. Visa rules come from the Kyrgyz e-Visa portal and government pages. Protected-area facts come from the managing body, UNESCO listings, or Ramsar records.
  • Operator and community pricing. Transport, guide and homestay prices are compiled from current operator rates, Community Based Tourism (CBT) offices and recent traveller reports, then expressed as a range rather than a single figure.
  • Cross-checking. Where two sources disagree, we say so in the guide instead of silently picking one.
  • Exchange rates. Prices are given in Kyrgyz som with a dollar equivalent, and the guide states the rate it assumes so you can recalculate.

What we do not do

Being clear about the limits of this site matters more than sounding authoritative.

  • We do not invent first-hand experience. You will not find a fabricated story about a night in a yurt that nobody spent. Where a guide is compiled from research rather than personal travel, it reads that way.
  • We do not publish paid or sponsored placements. No operator, hotel or agency has paid to appear in, or be removed from, any guide.
  • We do not sell links. External links are editorial. They point to sources, not to advertisers.
  • We do not book anything for you. We are a publication, not a travel agency. We cannot arrange visas, tours or emergency assistance.

Corrections and updates

Prices, permits and pass-opening dates in Kyrgyzstan change. Every guide carries a visible Updated date, and that date changes only when the content itself changes — not on a schedule to look fresh.

If you find something out of date or wrong, tell us. Email toofan.tempest59@gmail.com with a link to the guide and, where you can, the source for the correct figure. Corrections that affect cost, safety or legal requirements are prioritised and the guide’s update date is changed when the fix goes live.

Advertising

This site carries third-party display advertising. Advertisers have no involvement in, or advance sight of, editorial content. No guide, ranking or recommendation is influenced by who advertises here. Cookie use and your choices are covered in our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.

Safety

Several guides cover trekking above 3,000 metres, remote valleys and high passes. Mountain conditions change faster than any website updates. Treat our route information as planning material, confirm conditions locally before you set out, and read our Disclaimer.
